Your Malayalam OTT Watchlist This Week Is Ready — 3 Fresh Films Dropping on SonyLIV, Saina Play & Prime Video!

Malayalam cinema has consistently delivered some of the most inventive storytelling in Indian films, and this week’s OTT lineup is a fine example of that range — a romantic comedy about a cursed family, a caste-crossing love story staged as street theatre, and a young man’s wit-fuelled adventure. Three very different flavours, all landing on streaming this week.

Malayalam OTT Releases This Week — Overview

1. Madhuvidhu — A Family “Curse,” an Interfaith Romance and Pure Chaos

Madhuvidhu follows Amrutharaj, a café owner raised in an all-male household, who falls in love with Sneha Markose. After 28 failed marriage alliances lead villagers to believe his family is cursed, their interfaith engagement sets off a chain of hilarious chaos and dramatic misunderstandings.

This one has all the ingredients of a classic Kerala feel-good watch — a lovable protagonist, village gossip, interfaith romance and the kind of escalating misunderstandings that only Malayalam comedy writers seem to pull off so effortlessly. The film stars Sharaf U Dheen and Kalyani Panicker in the lead roles, directed by Vishnu Aravind, with cameos from Vineeth Sreenivasan and Bindu Panicker adding extra warmth to the ensemble. Stream it on SonyLIV from May 22.

2. Sureshanteyum Sumalathayudeyum Hrudayahariyaya Pranayakadha — Theatre, Caste & A Love That Refuses to Quit

Sureshanteyum Sumalathayudeyum Hrudayahariyaya Pranayakadha follows Sureshan and Sumalatha, a couple deeply in love but facing strong opposition due to caste and social differences, especially from Sumalatha’s father, Sudhakaran Nahar. To win him over, Sureshan devises an unusual plan by staging a local musical drama titled Sadarama, knowing Nahar’s deep passion for theatre.

It’s a wonderfully layered premise — using art and performance as a Trojan horse for acceptance. The film is a spin-off featuring supporting characters from Nna Thaan Case Kodu starring Kunchacko Boban, which means fans of that universe get to revisit familiar faces in a fresh, standalone story. Directed by Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval, with Rajesh Madhavan, Chithra Nair and Kunchacko Boban in key roles — this one is already available on Saina Play from May 19.

3. Bhishmar — Wit, Courage and a Thriller Wrapped in Comedy

Bhishmar explores the story of Murugan, a young man known for his sharp timing and lively sense of humour. As he stumbles through a series of hilarious events, he becomes caught in a thrilling adventure that puts his wit and courage to the test. Game8

Dhyan Sreenivasan plays Murugan, and if you’ve followed his recent work, you know he has a genuine knack for blending comedy and tension in a way that feels natural rather than forced. The film also stars Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Divya Pillai, Ammayra Goswami, Indrans, Senthil Krishna and Gibin Gopinath, directed by East Coast Vijayan. It’s the kind of breezy thriller-comedy that Malayalam cinema does uniquely well. Streams on both Amazon Prime Video and SunNXT from May 22. Game8
