Your Aadhaar Just Got a Digital Upgrade — Google Wallet Now Stores It Securely on Your Phone

No more fumbling for your Aadhaar printout at the cinema counter or visa application portal. Google just made a genuinely useful move for India — and for millions of people across the globe too. Google Wallet now supports Aadhaar Verifiable Credentials, and it’s already live with real partner integrations that make everyday life a little easier.

Google Wallet + Aadhaar — Key Details

What Does This Actually Mean for You?

Think of it as your Aadhaar card — but on your phone, smarter, and far more private. India users can now save their Aadhaar Verifiable Credentials directly inside Google Wallet on their Android device. It’s a digital identity system built around a key privacy principle called selective disclosure — meaning apps and services only see the exact piece of information they need, nothing more.

Here’s how it works across the five launch partners:

PVR INOX — Show your age at the ticket counter digitally to unlock age-restricted films and loyalty rewards. No physical ID required.

BharatMatrimony — Verify your identity to receive a ‘Prime’ badge on your profile, signalling you’re a real, verified person in the matchmaking pool.

Atlys — Auto-fill international visa applications instantly using your verified Aadhaar details — a massive time saver for frequent travellers.

Mygate — Coming soon: delivery staff and service personnel entering your gated community can be verified before they step in.

Snabbit — Also coming soon: seamless background checks for gig economy service providers, building trust between workers and customers.

India First, But Going Global

This isn’t just an India story. Google simultaneously announced that Singapore, Taiwan, and Brazil can now create an ID Pass — a secure, passport-based digital credential stored in Google Wallet. It’s designed for both in-person and online identity verification, from age checks to account sign-ins, all without handing over more data than necessary.

The big picture is clear: Google Wallet is positioning itself as the go-to digital identity layer worldwide. Security, privacy, and interoperability across physical and digital spaces are baked in at every level — this isn’t an afterthought bolt-on, it’s foundational architecture.

For Indian users especially, this is a meaningful step. Your Aadhaar has always been powerful. Now it’s portable, private, and actually usable in your daily digital life without friction.
