If you finished Euphoria Season 3 Episode 7 with your jaw on the floor, you’re not alone. Nate Jacobs is dead — and the way it happened is already one of the most talked-about scenes in the show’s entire run. Here’s every detail explained.

What Happened to Nate in Episode 7?

Episode 7 finds Nate trapped by loan sharks after his $1 million debt finally catches up with him. They bury him alive in a shallow grave with a small vent left open, then use Cassie as their pressure point — telling her she has three days to raise the money if she wants Nate freed.

The timeline didn’t mean much, though, because a rattlesnake had other plans. As Nate begged for someone to save him, the creature slithered down the tube, coiled, and struck. When Alamo, Maddy, and Cassie finally dug up the coffin, they opened the lid to find him already long dead. TV Insider

His already decomposing corpse was found with the snake still wrapped around him — tying together two of the most primal human fears: claustrophobia and ophidiophobia.

How Did Sam Levinson Come Up With the Rattlesnake Idea?

The origin of the scene is as unexpected as the scene itself. Originally, the plan was for Nate to die from heat or suffocation — but the rattlesnake idea came to Levinson while he and his wife were driving to work. Listening to Otis Redding on a beautiful LA day, he suddenly pictured a rattlesnake sensing movement in the ground and slithering into the pipe. He turned to his wife and said, “I think I got it.”

And the production took no shortcuts. Levinson revealed they used real rattlesnakes while filming in the desert on the outskirts of LA County, and the cast and crew literally risked their lives to capture the sequence.

What Does Jacob Elordi Think About Nate’s Death?

Elordi, reflecting on his character’s end in a behind-the-scenes video, said: “That’s a cool way to go. Nate is someone who’s made so many mistakes and made so many dark choices.” He also called the show “a massive part of not just my career, but my life.” Deadline

It’s a fitting farewell to one of TV’s most polarising characters — a complex villain in the tradition of prestige television antiheros who spent three seasons tormenting nearly everyone around him, only to meet an end that felt both monstrous and grimly poetic.
