Kitty Song Covey packed her bags for season 3 over three months ago — and fans are still waiting to hear what’s next. Unlike its previous two seasons, which got the green light within weeks of premiering, XO, Kitty is currently stuck in what insiders are calling creative limbo.

Where Things Stand in XO, Kitty?

The good news: it hasn’t been cancelled. According to a Deadline report, Paramount Television Studios has extended Netflix’s option on the series, and cast options for Anna Cathcart, Sang Heon Lee, and the rest of the ensemble remain active too. The delay isn’t about whether to continue Kitty’s story — it’s about how.

Detail	Status
Time since S3 premiere	3+ months, no renewal yet
Cast & studio options	Extended, still active
Under discussion	Season 4 vs. a wrap-up movie
S3 global rank	No. 16, 29.3 million views

Season 4 or a Farewell Movie?

Netflix and creator Jenny Han are reportedly weighing two paths: a traditional fourth season, or wrapping the story with one standalone film. Han has a track record here — the original To All the Boys trilogy closed as three movies, and her other hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty is following the same script with a film finale after three seasons.

Creatively, season 3’s ending — Kitty and Min Ho reconciling and heading to the US together — works well as either a season-opener or a natural closing chapter.

The Numbers Still Look Strong

Season 3 pulled 12.9 million views in its opening week, a much smaller dip from season 2’s 14.2 million than most returning Netflix shows typically see, and it held a top 10 spot for three straight weeks. That kind of retention usually works in a show’s favor, renewal delay or not.
