Xiaomi devices in Indonesia will officially receive the Earthquake Early Warning function

Xiaomi is really focusing on saving lives through its devices as the company’s smartphones and other devices are integrated with disaster warning systems. Xiaomi has been able to develop this technology by working hand-in-hand with disaster prevention and mitigation institutions in developing early warning systems. This technology could help millions of Indonesians respond in time to Earthquakes.

Xiaomi has announced the launch of its Earthquake Early Warning feature for its Indonesia-based customers. The EEW feature is a trial version now. The brand new EEW feature, when switched on, will provide useful notifications on seismic activity that may result in earthquakes in Indonesia.

The seismic intensity and the location of the earthquake will pop up immediately and it will help Xiaomi smartphone users in Indonesia make an accurate decision about when to move away from and avoid areas that are likely to face earthquakes.

As per Xiaomi, the EEW will offer a brief warning time before the arrival of secondary waves. The calculations are based on electric waves which are comparatively faster than secondary waves. The EEW feature in Xiaomi smartphone interfaces with the early warning system of the earthquake monitoring institute.

The synchronized information from the earthquake monitoring agency is then fed to Xiaomi devices as notifications. Top priority is given to areas where the earthquake is occurring for greater effectiveness.

The notifications will display important information with respect to the earthquake including the expected time of arrival and its magnitude. The phone will ring a warning tone when the early warning occurs and Xiaomi states that users must familiarize themselves with this tone.

Xiaomi is also expecting feedback from users who opt into the EEW feature in their compatible Xiaomi devices in Indonesia.
