Xherdan Shaqiri to join Chicago Fire in a club record deal worth €8m

Xherdan Shaqiri is on his way to the MLS from Lyon. The player has not been able to deliver as predicted when the French club signed him from Liverpool, and he is now expected to join Chicago Fire in the American league.

The Swiss international had asked Lyon for permission to negotiate with an MLS club, which seems to have been granted. Once the negotiations between the two parties have been completed, Shaqiri will be joining Chicago Fire on a permanent deal.

Xherdan Shaqiri to move to Chicago Fire

Lyon will be receiving a transfer fee worth €7 million for the player, and will be saving his wages only six months after signing him. Personal terms surrounding the move have been agreed, and it is only a matter of time before the transfer is made official.

The player currently earns €350,000 a week at Lyon, which is a very high salary. And Chicago Fire will be completing a record transfer if they are able to secure the deal within the next few days.

This season, he has made 16 appearances, scoring 2 goals and providing 3 assists across all competitions. He has fallen out of favour under Peter Bosz, who prefers other players instead of the 30-year-old.

Xherdan Shaqiri will be joining Douglas Costa, who is also moving to the MLS in the coming days. The Brazilian will be joining LA Galaxy in the league, while Shaqiri joins Chicago Fire.
