A snowbound French town, a buried past and a detective with her own demons. Netflix has officially announced La Part du Mal, a gritty new crime thriller series from Under Paris director Xavier Gens. It has already finished filming, so here’s what we know.

What’s the Story?
Police superintendent Malin Fors investigates a mysterious murder in the middle of a hard winter in eastern France. Every clue leads her to a carefully hidden past, and she must face the darkness of others as well as her own. The plot seems to match Midvinterblod, the first Malin Fors novel from 2007, though that isn’t confirmed. A French reissue under the series title is set for February 2027.
Who’s in the Cast?
Cécile De France leads the show. You may know her from The Young Pope and The New Pope. She’s joined by Grégory Gadebois, whose role is unknown, and Damien Bonnard, who was César-nominated for Les Misérables. Simon Abkarian, who starred in Netflix’s Notre-Dame, rounds out the main names along with Moussa Mansaly and Lubna Azabal.
Who’s Behind the Camera?
Xavier Gens directed an unspecified number of episodes, and he’s an executive producer on Under Paris 2. The series comes from Vincent Roget’s Full Players, a producer of Under Paris, and it was written by Bastien Dartois, Mary Milojevic, Sarah Angelini and Louis Aubert.
When Will It Arrive?
Netflix hasn’t confirmed a release window. The wintry setting suggests a cold-season launch, so early 2027 looks most likely. Pick-up shoots are possible before launch.
