This week, Xavi Hernandez will finish his makeover of Barcelona‘s medical department. When Xavi returned to the club last month to take over from Ronald Koeman, he immediately set about upgrading the medical department.

There were sackings in the department within 48 hours, despite the department’s poor performance in recent years. Injury has been all too regular, and top asset Ousmane Dembélé has been plagued by setback after setback.

Xavi completes the reorganization of the Barcelona medical department with Pruna’s appointment

New appointments were made, the most noteworthy of which was Ricard Pruna’s latest appointment. Pruna will report to the medical department and begin his new job this week.

Xavi, the former midfielder who worked under Pruna at the club throughout his playing days, considers Pruna to be the most trusted medical specialist in the game. The club doctor previously worked for Barcelona for 25 years, starting in 1996 and leaving in 2021.

Pruna then spent a brief time with Andorra FC before joining Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates in the summer. Pruna has since returned to Camp Nou, and as the new club doctor, he will take charge of the medical department starting this week.

According to Diario AS, Pruna will come on Thursday and will be tasked with addressing Barca’s injury situation and restoring crucial players Pedri and Ansu Fati to full fitness.
