Top 3 problems that Xavi still needs to work on at Barcelona

Xavi Hernandez became the new manager of his boyhood club, Barcelona, very recently. The task for the Spaniard is a huge one, since he has to restore his club to their former glory. Among the huge number of problems that still exist, here are three that Xavi has not yet found a solution for.

Leaky defence

Barcelona most recently lost to Real Betis, in Xavi’s first loss as the Barca manager. The Spaniard admitted to feeling annoyed about the only goal conceded during the game. They have conceded 17 goals in the league so far. While it isn’t the worst in the league by a long shot, it isn’t the best either.

If the team is to challenge for titles down the line, fixing the defence needs robbe one of the first steps. And so far, little progress has been made since the dismissal of Ronald Koeman.

Inconsistent attacking

Alongside the game against Betis, Barcelona were unable to find the killer instinct against Benfica in the Champions League. The forwards are failing to deliver in important games, and as a result, there is an inconsistent goalscoring record for the team.

This, of course, can be traced back to the fact that this is the worst frontline that Barcelona have had in years. Moreover, they are also dealing with the loss of the greatest player in history, which has left them strapped for goals.

While Memphis Depay has stepped up in the league, with 8 goals to his name. But, relying on him alone, apart from teenagers, hasn’t been working out in terms of results on paper.

Poor performances from older players

The likes of Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele, Gerard Pique and Marc Andre ter Stegen have been out of form this year. Ter Stegen in particular is a special case, since he is among the best in the world in his position.

The lack of support from these players has led to Xavi facing even more difficulties in terms of managing the team.

With issues of great magnitude in front of Xavi, it will take time for the club to be able to fight and regain their former glory. And right now, we are a long way off from seeing that happen.
