Vivo is now a member of the HEVC Advanced Patent Pool gaining access to over 16,000 patents

Vivo Mobile Communication has officially joined the HEVC Advanced Patent Pool, which will give the smartphone maker access to over 16,000 patents, according to Access Advance, an independent licensing administrator.

Access Advance made the announcement earlier this month. Vivo now has access to a large number of patents about the HEVC/H.265 video codec standard. “We are very pleased that Vivo has chosen to join our HEVC Advance program,” said Access Advance CEO Peter Moller. Vivo’s participation is yet another important endorsement from a major smartphone manufacturer and brand, highlighting the importance of our HEVC pool license.”

He went on to say that the company is the newest to join their HEVC Advance program, which already licenses the vast majority of smartphone brands. This includes well-known smartphone brands such as Samsung, Huawei, and OPPO, as well as newcomers to Vivo and, most recently, ZTE. “We thank Vivo and all our Licensees and Licensors for their support,” Peter Moller added, “and expect to have more significant announcements soon.”

Access Advance LLC (formerly HEVC Advance LLC) is an independent licensing administrator company that was founded to lead the development, administration, and management of patent pools for licensing the most important standards-based video codec technologies.

For those who aren’t aware, Access Advance licenses its technology and patents to a variety of companies in a variety of industries. It was established as an independent licensing entity to lead the development, administration, and management of patent pools for licensing essential patents of the most widely used standards-based video codec technologies. In other words, Vivo has gained access to new technologies that will most likely aid its smartphone operations.

Both patent owners and patent implementers benefit from Access Advance’s transparent and efficient licensing system. It currently manages and administers the HEVC Advance Patent Pool for licensing H.265/HEVC technology patents, as well as the separate and independent VVC Advance Patent Pool for licensing VVC/H.266 technology patents.
