Why Kiara Advani Was the Only Star Geetu Mohandas Could Ever See as Nadia in Yash’s Toxic

When a National Award-winning director says she had no second option, you know the casting is something special. That’s exactly what Geetu Mohandas revealed about choosing Kiara Advani for the role of Nadia in the much-anticipated Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups — and the reason behind it is beautifully honest.

The One Quality That Made the Decision Effortless

In a recent interview with Grazia India, director Geetu Mohandas revealed that the character Nadia embodies both fragility and ferocity — and because of this duality, Kiara was her first and only choice from the very beginning. Netflix Tudum

Mohandas shared that there is something about Kiara’s screen presence that feels deeply human, and that sometimes cinema begins not with logic, but with a feeling — and casting Kiara was exactly that kind of feeling. Netflix Tudum

It’s rare for a filmmaker to speak with such certainty about a casting decision. But with Toxic, it’s clear this wasn’t a business call — it was artistic instinct.

More Than Just Following Direction

What truly sets Kiara apart on this project, according to her director, is her process. Mohandas noted that Kiara’s dedication is not loud or performative — it’s quiet, disciplined, and deeply sincere. She doesn’t just follow directions; she actively participates in building the emotional architecture of the character. Netflix Tudum

The director observed that Kiara had spent time living with the character in her mind long before the cameras rolled, and that her curiosity transformed the filmmaking process into a conversation rather than one-sided direction. Netflix Tudum

That’s the kind of creative partnership every filmmaker dreams of.

A Post-Baby Comeback Worth Watching

After welcoming her baby girl, Saraayah Malhotra, in July 2025, Kiara is making her big-screen return with Toxic — and if her director’s words are anything to go by, this performance will be unlike anything audiences have seen from her before.

Playing Nadia demanded a great deal from Kiara both physically and emotionally, and Mohandas said she could see the character literally breathing in front of the camera — describing those moments as magical for a director.

Kiara Advani has steadily evolved as one of Bollywood’s most versatile performers, and Toxic marks a bold new chapter — her Kannada debut, no less.
