Who Hired Paladin? VisionQuest’s Showrunner Rules Out Billy, Doom and Tony Stark-Level Twists

Every good mystery needs a villain behind the curtain. In VisionQuest, that villain is the unseen client who hired the bounty hunter Paladin, and the showrunner just gave fans a few clues about who it isn’t.

The Mystery So Far

According to The Direct, Paladin, a bounty hunter modelled after Boba Fett, has been tracking Vision through the first episodes. He has no personal grudge against Vision. He’s simply doing the job he was hired for, which makes the identity of his client one of the show’s biggest questions.

New episodes air on Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. ET on Disney+.

What the Showrunner Confirmed for VisionQuest?

Terry Matalas spoke to New Rockstars and said the client will not be revealed until later in the series. He ruled out a few popular guesses:

Matalas said the reveal won’t be an earth-shattering fan-theory moment, but the character matters to the story. He also told fans there’s time before they need to obsess over it.

Who Could It Be?

The Direct offers several possibilities. These are the writer’s guesses, not confirmed.

• Sharon Carter (the Power Broker): She ran a shady operation from Madripoor in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Madripoor has been confirmed for VisionQuest. That gives her a ready-made connection.
• Xu Xialing: Shang-Chi’s sister took over the Ten Rings organisation, and the show says Paladin got his Adamantium from the Ten Rings. The open question is what she would want with Vision.
• Jocasta: Confirmed as a major villain in the series, so she remains a strong candidate.
• Ultron: It would be a twist if the client was Ultron, since many assume he exists only inside Vision’s Mindspace.

Why It Matters?

The reveal could connect VisionQuest to the wider MCU, depending on who the client is. And because the show’s new schedule drops episodes in pairs, answers may arrive sooner than fans expected. With Avengers: Doomsday just weeks away, every connection is being studied closely.

Conclusion

“Important but not earth-shattering” is a clever way to tease. It suggests a character with real stakes in Vision’s story, not a cameo for its own sake. Sharon Carter and Xialing both fit that description neatly, but with Marvel, the answer could still surprise us.
