The Biggest New Addition: Eva Green as Aunt Ophelia

If Season 3 has one headline cast announcement, it’s this — Eva Green (Casino Royale, Penny Dreadful) joins as Aunt Ophelia, Morticia’s mysterious and dangerous estranged sister. Teased in the Season 2 finale with the chilling words “Wednesday must die” scratched on a wall, Ophelia is set to be the most formidable foe Wednesday has ever faced — and showrunner Alfred Gough has confirmed she’ll be “a big part of Season 3.”

It’s a casting choice that feels almost too perfect. Green’s gothic intensity is tailor-made for the Addams Family universe — and fans are already losing their minds over it.

What Happens in Season 3? Story Threads to Watch

Season 2 ended with enormous loose ends deliberately left dangling. Wednesday and Uncle Fester are heading on a road trip to find Enid, who is stuck in her Alpha werewolf form. Tyler is still at large, his mercy-fuelled release by Wednesday guaranteed to cause trouble. And Morticia has gifted Wednesday Ophelia’s journal — hinting that psychic power, family lies, and a deadly rivalry lie at the heart of Season 3.

Showrunner Miles Millar describes the theme plainly: love and lies inside the Addams family. Expect it to be the darkest chapter yet.

Key returning cast includes Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Fred Armisen, Hunter Doohan, and Gwendoline Christie as Weems (confirmed to return in some capacity).

When Can We Expect Wednesday Season 3 on Netflix?

With filming running through most of 2026, a 2026 release is completely off the table — Netflix has officially confirmed as much. Summer 2027, potentially early June, is the current target. Whether they split it into two parts again (a divisive choice with Season 2) remains to be decided.

The long wait is real — but given what’s coming, it might just be worth every agonising day.
