The highly anticipated Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is set to launch on September 9th, bringing with it intense action and deep lore. While the game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, there are some key technical features that won’t be available at launch.
However, developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment have outlined an ambitious plan for post-launch updates, ensuring that the game continues to evolve and improve over time.
Limited Upscaling Options at Launch
At the time of release, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 will support NVIDIA DLSS 2 and AMD FSR 2, offering players enhanced image quality and performance on both PC and consoles. However, fans looking forward to the more advanced NVIDIA DLSS 3 and AMD FSR 3 technologies will have to wait a little longer.
These next-gen upscaling techniques, known for delivering superior performance and visual reliability, are planned for inclusion in a post-launch update. While no specific date has been provided, this update is expected to significantly enhance the gaming experience once it arrives.
Display Mode Options for Consoles
Console players can expect a range of display mode options customized to their hardware. On the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, players will have the choice between a Quality Mode that runs at 4K resolution with 30 FPS, or a Performance Mode that targets a smoother 60 FPS at 1080p resolution.
The Xbox Series S, being a less powerful console, will offer 1440p resolution in Quality Mode and the same 1080p/60 FPS performance as its more powerful counterparts in Performance Mode. These options allow players to prioritize either visual reliability or smoother gameplay, depending on their preference.
Ray Tracing, HDR, and Ultrawide Support
Despite the impressive array of features, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 will not include ray tracing or HDR support at launch. These high-end graphical features, which enhance lighting and color depth, are often expected in modern games but will not be part of the initial release.
The game will soon support ultrawide monitors, which will be available by the end of September. This will be great for PC gamers who use these types of monitors, as they will be able to experience the Warhammer universe in a more immersive way.
Crossplay is confirmed for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 from day one, allowing players on PC and consoles to team up. However, it’s important to note that the PvP Eternal War mode will have separate lobbies, meaning crossplay will only be available when playing with friends rather than in public matchmaking. This approach ensures balanced gameplay while still offering the flexibility to play with friends across platforms.
Future Content and Updates
The launch of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is just the beginning. The developers have promised ongoing support and new content as part of Season 1. This includes the addition of Private PvE lobbies, a Sparring Arena. Furthermore, Steam Deck support is planned to be available before the end of the year, making the game accessible to an even broader audience.
