Digital Extremes revealed earlier this month that The New War, their next major cinematic addition for Warframe, will be released in December. The company behind the famous online action game published a new CGI teaser during a recent live broadcast, as well as announcing that the update will be available on all platforms on December 15.
Digital Extremes announced the release date of their “biggest cinematic expansion ever” at their most recent and last developer webcast of the year. The next addition will add a lot of new material to the award-winning game, including new playable characters such as Kahl-175, a Grineer warrior; Veso, a Corpus Tech; and Teshin, a competent Dax soldier. It will also have a new Warframe called Caliban, The Sentient Warframe, a new cinematic Quest, and an overhauled Arsenal with new Customizations, Weapons, and Accessories. The plot will take players to 16 planets with three open worlds to halt returning veterans of the Old War from launching a new one.
Blur Studios created the brand new “Discover Your Power Within” trailer that accompanied the announcement of the release date. Blur Studios is the team behind the cutscenes seen in Halo 2 Anniversary found in Halo: The Master Chief Collection, as well as producing the Netflix series, Love, Death, and Robots. It depicts a character being inserted into the titular Warframe and battling with other Warframes against a platoon of the Lotus.
“Warframe’s story is everything to us. The New War is the experience players have wanted since the quest title was first revealed at TennoCon 2018,” Digital Extremes creative director Steve Sinclair said. “This moment is the culmination of years of experimentation in game development and feeding the beast that is Warframe.” Sinclair continued by saying, “our community has given us everything to let us continue the story that is both ours and theirs—Warframe is a shared experience. With the launch of The New War, players will have a definitive Warframe experience at their fingertips, and it sets the stage for Warframe’s continued growth. We’ve only just begun.”
