Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has finally revealed the much-anticipated The Bengal Files release date, along with an important update on the project’s title.

The movie, which was previously announced as The Delhi Files – The Bengal Chapter, has now officially been renamed The Bengal Files: Right to Life. Taking to social media, the director also announced that the first teaser for the film will be unveiled on June 12, 2025, ahead of its theatrical debut.

Title Change Reflects the Film’s Core Theme

On Tuesday, Agnihotri took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the breaking update with his followers. He posted the fresh poster along with a caption that read, “BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: The Delhi Files is now The Bengal Files. Teaser coming this Thursday, 12 June 2025 at 12 PM. In cinemas on 05 September 2025.”

As per the announcement, The Bengal Files release date is set for September 5, 2025, confirming months of speculation. The striking poster also displays the subtitle Right to Life, indicating the emotional and political weight the film will carry.

Director Explains Why the Name Had to Change

In a candid conversation, Agnihotri explained the rationale behind changing the title of the project. Initially, the filmmakers had planned a two-part narrative, with the first titled The Delhi Files and the second as a Bengal-focused story.

“The first and foremost reason is that the film is about Bengal. When we started making the project, we thought we would make a two-part project with one film titled Delhi Files and the second on the lines of the Bengal chapter.”

However, this original naming scheme led to confusion among viewers. The director shared how a flood of feedback from the public encouraged him to reconsider.

“But then people started writing and asking me to make it the Bengal Files. Then I did a poll where 99 people asked me to change the title. That’s when I thought, why get stuck in the communication… Now, it makes more sense.”

Future Films Undergoing Title Changes Too

Agnihotri also revealed that the second film in the proposed series will undergo a name change in the future. “We will have to change the title of the second part as well…. But that’s something we will see after releasing the first chapter,” he confirmed.

With The Bengal Files release date now official, all focus remains on the first installment, while plans for the second remain under wraps.

What to Expect from The Bengal Files

Though full plot details remain confidential, reports suggest that The Bengal Files will spotlight the Hindu genocide and investigate the far-reaching consequences of the political developments in Bengal during the 1940s. This aligns with Agnihotri’s continued focus on politically sensitive historical events.

The cast features notable actors such as Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, and Govind Namdev, promising impactful performances. Produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi, the film aims to provide a hard-hitting cinematic experience supported by powerful storytelling.

Continuation of Agnihotri’s Historical Trilogy

Following the success of The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files, Agnihotri seems determined to cement his legacy of exposing untold historical narratives. The Bengal Files looks set to add another chapter to this thematic series.
