Virat Kohli’s time as a RCB captain came to an end after 11 long years as the Bangalore side crashed out of IPL 2021 against Kolkata in the Eliminator. However, a good news to all RCB fans is that Virat Kohli hase confirmed that he will continue to play for the side.
After losing against KKR, Virat Kohli gave a heartfelt speech in the post match interview.“I have tried my best to create a culture where youngsters could come and play expressive cricket. It’s something I’ve tried to do in the India level as well. All I can say is that I have given my best. I have given my 120% to this franchise and will continue giving it as a player on the field,” said Kohli.
He also added that “It’s a great time to regroup and restructure the franchise for the next three years. I will definitely (play for RCB). For me, loyalty matters and my commitment is with this franchise till the last day I play IPL.”
Virat Kohli’s record as a captain for RCB
Virat Kohli took over the mantle as a regular RCB captain from Daniel Vettori after the 2012 IPL season. During Kohli’s tenure as a captain RCB have had a topsy turvy ride. His best result as a Bangalore leader was when he led them to the final in 2016 against SRH. Moreover, his performances as a batsman also improved significantly as he scored a staggering 973 runs that helped RCB reach the finals.
Apart from the 2016 season, Kohli has led the side to the playoffs on three different occasions. First being the 2015 season, 2020 IPL(UAE) and the ongoing 2021 IPL (UAE). In total Kohli has captained the side for 140 games and has helped his side win 66 games.
In the end, Virat’s decision to leave the RCB captaincy might upset many fans. Nonetheless, it was a great journey for him as a captain and fans will be looking forward as he will certainly guide the new captain with his inputs next season.
