There are milestones, and then there are moments that belong to a different universe entirely. On April 27, 2026, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi — the very city where a young Virat Kohli first picked up a cricket bat — the man wrote another line into the sport’s eternal record book.

Virat Kohli became the first player ever to score 9,000 runs in IPL history — a milestone so far ahead of the competition, it may stand for decades.

Virat Kohli’s IPL 9000-Run Milestone — Key Stats

Stat	Detail
Runs before match	8,989
Milestone achieved vs	Delhi Capitals
Venue	Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi
Innings score	23* off 15 balls
Seasons played	19 (all with RCB)
First player to 9,000 IPL runs	✅ Yes
Match result	RCB won by 9 wickets

The Moment the Stadium Stood Still

Kohli walked into this match needing just 11 runs to reach 9,000. He opened his innings with a stylish four off Dushmantha Chameera, the shot going straight over the bowler’s head. Vintage Kohli — no fuss, no theatrics, just timing.

The historic moment came when he nudged a single off Axar Patel. The crowd rose to its feet. It was a deeply personal milestone achieved on his home ground — the city where his cricket journey began.

The emotion in the stadium was palpable. This wasn’t just a number. This was 19 seasons of loyalty, grit, and genius.

A Record Built on Loyalty & Longevity

What makes Kohli’s achievement even more extraordinary is the how. He is the only player in IPL history to have played all 19 seasons with the same team. No franchise hops, no auction gambles — just one man, one team, one relentless pursuit of excellence.

Earlier in the DC vs RCB clash, Delhi Capitals had been bowled out for just 75 in 16.3 overs, and Kohli’s composed 23* helped RCB chase the target down by 9 wickets.

Why This Milestone Matters

In a format built for franchise loyalty and big-money auctions, Kohli has been the rare constant. His 9,000 runs weren’t accumulated in bursts across different teams — they were earned, season after season, in red and gold. According to the official IPL records on iplt20.com, no other batter has come close to this total.

Virat Kohli at 9,000 IPL runs isn’t just a statistic — it’s the story of a man who turned loyalty into legend.
