There’s a specific kind of emotional whiplash only military dramas can deliver — you spend seasons watching a character stumble through basic training, and suddenly it’s discharge day. That’s exactly the moment “New Recruit 4: Sabotage” is building toward, and the newly released stills have fans equal parts thrilled and nostalgic.

Based on the popular animated series of the same name, “New Recruit” is a black-comedy drama that dives into the chaos, culture, and quiet absurdities of life in South Korea’s military — a subject that resonates deeply with Korean audiences, since conscription is a shared rite of passage for nearly every young man in the country.

Season 4 follows Park Min Seok (Kim Min Ho) as he’s promoted to corporal, only to face fresh chaos when a mysterious new recruit and a new battalion commander shake up his unit. But the real emotional core of this episode belongs to two other soldiers finally reaching the finish line.

What’s Happening in New Recruit 4 Episode 10

Character	Actor	Arc
Kang Chan Seok	Lee Jung Hyun	Reformed “villain” turned changed man, finally discharged
Choi Byung Nam	Kim Hee Soo	Beloved comic relief, finally discharged
Park Jae Soo	Oh Yong	2nd Company’s “father figure,” sending his soldiers off
Jo Baek Ho	Oh Dae Hwan	Awaits results of his final promotion review

Kang Chan Seok and Choi Byung Nam’s discharge was delayed once already due to Homeland Defense Training, so their long-awaited exit carries real weight — the stills capture that mix of relief and bittersweetness that comes from finally closing a chapter you’ve lived through for seasons. Meanwhile, Jo Baek Ho’s storyline takes a tenser turn, with a stern handshake in the final released image hinting that his path to promotion isn’t guaranteed just yet.

The production team teased that today’s episode will wrap up Kang Chan Seok and Choi Byung Nam’s “long journey filled with laughter and tears,” while also revealing whether Jo Baek Ho gets his well-earned promotion.

Episode 10 airs September 22 at 10 p.m. KST, with subtitles available on Viki shortly after.
