A Knock Born Out of Fire
Context matters here. Sooryavanshi had been fined by the BCCI just days earlier following an on-field altercation with Sri Lanka A players. He walked out to bat in the tri-series final with a point to prove, and what followed was cricket at its most ferociously brilliant.
Playing just one dot ball in his first 11 deliveries, Sooryavanshi smashed five fours and five sixes to reach fifty — surpassing the previous world record of 12 balls set by Sri Lanka’s Kaushalya Weeraratne all the way back in 2005. Twenty-one years of history, erased in under two overs.

So Close to Two Records at Once
The fifty was just the beginning. Sooryavanshi then set his sights on the fastest List-A century ever — a 29-ball hundred held by Jake Fraser-McGurk for South Australia. At 94 off 28 balls, he needed one more boundary off ball 29. He swung hard over cover. The mid-off took the catch. History, by the narrowest of margins, would have to wait.
He finished with 94 off 29 balls — 10 fours, 8 sixes, and 88 of his runs in boundaries alone. India A were 132/1 inside nine overs. It was devastating in the most beautiful way.
A Record That Puts Him Above Yuvraj Singh
Sooryavanshi has now officially surpassed Yuvraj Singh’s iconic 12-ball fifty — scored during his legendary six-sixes-in-an-over innings at the 2007 T20 World Cup — to become the joint-fastest Indian ever to reach fifty in any format of competitive cricket, equalling the T20 records of Ashutosh Sharma and Akash Choudhary.
In List-A cricket specifically, Sooryavanshi obliterated the previous Indian record of 15 balls held by Sarfaraz Khan. He is 15 years old.
