UEFA Europa League 22/23: Matchday 2 review – Ronaldo scores at last; Roma ease past HJK

Round 2 of Europa League fixture was played out to a conclusion last night. Manchester United picked up their first win of the campaign with a 2-0 win against Moldovan side Sherrif Tiraspol. 

Jadon Sancho scored the first goal for the visitors, followed by a penalty that Cristiano Ronaldo took to open his scoring account for the ongoing season. But with Real Sociedad earning a win against Omonia, United are second in their group with three points.

Roma continued to put in an impressive performance, and earned a 3-0 win over Finnish side HJK. Lorenzo Pellegrini, Paulo Dybala and Andrea Belotti were on target for Jose Mourinho as they claimed their first win in the Europa League this season over HJK who were a man down. 

One of the upsets of the night saw Hungarian side Ferencvaros claim a 1-0 win over Monaco. Balint Vecsei scored the only goal of the game in the 79th minute to earn all three points for his side.

Lazio, on the other hand, suffered a 5-1 defeat against Midtjylland of Denmark. Their group poses an interesting case, with all four teams having three points each. 

Arsenal’s match against PSV has been postponed due to the Queen’s funeral, and will be played at a later date.
