Ubisoft CEO hints at additional platform releases following PEGI listing discovery and Star Wars Outlaws Switch 2 confirmation

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has teased that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will receive “new versions that will come to other machines,” fueling speculation about a potential Nintendo Switch 2 release. The comments came during the company’s latest earnings briefing, suggesting significant platform expansion beyond the current PC, Xbox, and PlayStation availability.

Switch 2 Evidence Mounting

The executive’s cryptic statement gains credibility following a PEGI website listing that suggested Assassin’s Creed Shadows may be heading to Switch 2. While Ubisoft hasn’t officially confirmed specific games for Nintendo’s next-generation console, the regulatory rating appearance indicates active development considerations.

Strategic Precedent with Star Wars Outlaws

Ubisoft has already confirmed Star Wars Outlaws for Switch 2 with a September 4 release date, establishing the publisher’s commitment to Nintendo’s upcoming console. This precedent suggests Assassin’s Creed Shadows could follow a similar path, potentially expanding its 5 million player base significantly.

Strong Performance Metrics Drive Expansion

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has “performed in line with expectations” since its March 20 launch, reaching impressive milestone numbers that justify additional platform investment. The game’s success comes after multiple development delays that allowed the team sufficient time to polish the experience to Ubisoft’s standards.

Key Performance Indicators:

5 million players achieved since March launch
In-line performance with Ubisoft projections
Strong engagement metrics supporting expansion decisions
Claws of Awaji expansion scheduled for October 2025

Ubisoft Executive Teases "New Versions" for Switch 2 Amid Platform Expansion

Nintendo Switch 2 Market Opportunity

The potential Switch 2 version represents significant market expansion opportunities, particularly given Nintendo’s massive portable gaming audience. Ubisoft’s cautious approach of not confirming specific titles while hinting at “new versions” suggests strategic timing aligned with Nintendo’s official Switch 2 announcements.

Expansion Benefits:

Broader audience reach through Nintendo’s install base
Portable gaming appeal for Assassin’s Creed franchise
Cross-platform player growth potential
Revenue diversification across console ecosystems

The timing of these hints, combined with regulatory listings and established Ubisoft precedents, suggests Nintendo Switch 2 compatibility is likely in active development, potentially positioning Shadows as a major third-party launch title for Nintendo’s next-generation system.
