TSMC new 6nm process orders placed by Big chipmakers

Qualcomm, MediaTek and Unisoc have all placed orders for their upcoming 5G mobile application processors with TSMC demanding the foundry’s 6nm process manufacturing, according to industry sources.

As per a report by DigiTimes the world’s largest contract chipmaker, TSMC already has its 5nm and 6nm processes at maximum capacity, but Qualcomm has still managed to secure its orders with the firm. The report arrives from industry sources close to the matter. Unfortunately, finer details regarding these orders are currently unknown at the moment. All the big chip makers have placed orders with the world’s largest chip producer of 6nm process.

A tipster also added that new platforms made in these advanced processes will be launched within the second half of this year. These chips are expected to be a part of the American mobile chip maker’s mid to high segment processors for smartphones.

Some sources indicate that, since the world is experiencing a global semi-conductor crisis, Qualcomm might attempt to secure additional supplies for the Snapdragon 888. There have been many reports indicating that Qualcomm has been running short with the supply of its Snapdragon 888. Semiconductor shortages, caused by supply chain priorities changing because of the coronavirus pandemic, have forced some major auto manufacturers to suspend production lines. Shortages also appear to be spreading to a wide range of electronic items, including smartphones, games consoles, tablets, and laptops.
