Tottenham have announced the signing of James Maddison from Leicester City for a fee worth £40 million. The attacking midfielder has signed a five-year contract with the Lilywhites, and leaves Leicester after their relegation at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Spurs transfer news: New goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario signs from Empoli

Tottenham have officially announced the arrival of Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli for a fee worth €19 million. The player has agreed a five-year contract until 2028 and joins the Premier League on the back of a very impressive season in Italy which saw him keep seven clean sheets in 31 games and help Empoli finish 14th.

Vicario will be wearing the number 13 shirt at Spurs, and is likely to be the replacement for Hugo Lloris.

Club captain Hugo Lloris is set to leave at the end of the season, having confirmed his desire to do so in an interview back in France. The goalkeeper has spent eleven years with the London club, and has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the world. 

However, in spite of his quality between the sticks, they were not able to win any trophies. His contract expires in 2024, but he has admitted that now is the right time to leave the club. Here is what he had to say: 

“We are coming to an important moment, whether for the club or for me. It’s the end of an era. I have desires for other things,” he said in an interview with French media outlet Nice-Matin. 

“I will ask myself quietly to study what will be possible. But I don’t forget that I still have a year of contract with Tottenham and that in football it is always difficult to predict what will happen. What is essential at the moment is to recover well from my injury. I’m on vacation but I continue to talk and do my training. My goal is to be on top in July, then we’ll see what the future holds for me.
