A top-paid actor in Kalki 2898 AD wasn’t the franchise’s lead—and Bollywood insiders were genuinely shocked. While Prabhas and Deepika Padukone grabbed all the attention, one supporting performer walked away with the biggest paycheck. This unexpected move shows how major productions now value established ensemble talent over the traditional lead-first approach, completely changing how big-budget films divvy up their casting budgets.
Who Was The Top-Paid Actor?
Amitabh Bachchan commanded the highest fees as the top-paid actor on Kalki 2898 AD. The veteran legend’s involvement elevated the project’s prestige significantly.
His portrayal of a pivotal character justified the premium investment. He drew audiences who might otherwise skip science fiction experiments. Bachchan’s star power and decades of credibility created box office insurance that younger leads simply couldn’t match—a strategic bet that paid off both commercially and critically.
The Paycheck Breakdown
The salary structure reveals some fascinating industry trends. Amitabh Bachchan’s compensation exceeded both Prabhas and Deepika Padukone’s individual deals.
While exact figures stay confidential, industry insiders estimate the top-paid actor earned substantially more than the nominal leads. This flips traditional Bollywood hierarchy on its head—the male lead typically commands the largest paycheck. Deepika secured a respectable fee, but Bachchan’s experience premium proved decisive in negotiations.
Why This Casting Choice Matters
The decision signals how casting strategies have evolved across major productions. Modern filmmakers recognize that ensemble strength beats singular star power.
Bachchan’s inclusion attracted international distributors and elevated the film’s credibility in foreign markets—crucial for recouping massive sci-fi budgets. This approach mirrors how established character actors now command premium rates in prestige projects.
