Top 5 longest unbeaten streaks in Indian Super League history

Indian Super League was started in 2014 with 8 teams. From the 2017-18 season, it became the top division league in India and also, it was made a 10 team’s league. The excitement and competition of this league are still the same from the very first season.

It’s very tough to continue your form and play every game with your full potential and maintaining a winning streak in a competitive league like ISL. But there are some teams who have done this. Initially, FC Goa and ATK Mohun Bagan hold the joint record for the longest unbeaten run in ISL. Interestingly, both teams have enjoyed the unbeaten run under the same manager, Juan Ferrando.

Longest Unbeaten run in ISL history

Bengaluru FC registered one of the longest unbeaten streak in the history of the Indian Super League. There was reservations regarding their success as the departure of Alberto Roca to FC Barcelona. Their unbeaten streak was held for a whopping 10 matches in the league.

FC Goa made headlines by appointing former Brazilian international Zico as their head coach in 2014. It paid them dividends as they finished second on the points table by a solitary point. They had a dream season in which the Gaurs were unbeaten for 10 consecutive matches.

Bengaluru FC arrived in the Indian Super League in the 2017-18 season and they made their intentions known to the other teams that they are here to stay. Their unbeaten run started with a win against Mumbai City FC and they kept going until a defeat against Chennaiyin FC in the ISL final halted their run.

The 2021-22 season was full of turmoil for the Kolkata-based club ATK Mohun Bagan, especially in the initial phase. They had a good start to the season, winning their first two games. However, after that, the side lost its way a bit. This forced the management to rope in former FC Goa coach Juan Ferrando as their new head coach. Ferrando’s appointment changed the fortunes of the side as they went on to have the joint longest unbeaten streak in the ISL – 15 games.

Mumbai City FC were not expected to stamp their authority in the 2018-19 season but they emerged as the surprise package of the season. The team had a very slow start to the season but gradually they started to build the momentum. They had been on a nine match unbeaten run but they had to taste a defeat against their archrival FC Goa that brought their unbeaten streak to an end.
