Football is a game of passing, and the Premier League has seen some of the best passers of the ball in its 30 years of existence. In this article, we take a look at the top 5 players with the most passes in the top flight of English football.

5. David Silva – 18,801 passes

The Spanish midfielder is among the greatest players to ever feature for Manchester City. He played 18,801 passes during his time in England, and has the most assists in the club’s history. In his ten years with the Sky Blues, Silva won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and five League Cups.

4. Michael Carrick – 18,978 passes 

Michael Carrick joined Manchester United at the start of 2006/07, and went on to wear the captain’s armband for the club. He became a reliable option for Sir Alex Ferguson during his time in charge of the club, and dominated the midfield with his passing and ability to read the game. 

3. Cesc Fabregas – 19,187 passes 

Fabregas made a name for himself as a youngster at Arsenal, fresh out of the Barcelona academy. He would then return to his boyhood club, and subsequently to England with Chelsea. The midfielder won two Premier League titles, one Europa League and one FA Cup with the Blues upon returning. 

2. Gareth Barry – 20,616 passes 

Gareth Barry has the most appearances in the Premier League. He has made over a 100 appearances for Manchester City, Aston Villa and Everton before hanging up his boots in 2020 with West Brom.

The Liverpool captain is the only active player on the list, and has the record for the most passes in the Premier League. He is renowned not only for his defensive capabilities, but also for his ability to distribute the ball and dictate the pace of the game.
