The FA Cup is the oldest Cup competition in the world, having been contested over 150 years. We have had several icons play in the domestic tournament over the years, and in this article, we will look at the top five goalscorers in the FA Cup

5. Wayne Rooney – 23 goals 

The Manchester United legend only won the trophy once in 2016. He scored 23 goals from 50 appearances in the tournament, and three of them were from penalties. 

4. Alan Shearer – 23 goals 

Alan Shearer remains the Premier League’s all-time highest goalscorer. He also enters the conversation of the all-time highest goalscorers in the FA Cup, with 23 goals from 44 games to his name. But despite his legendary status, he was never able to win the FA Cup. 

3. Frank Lampard – 27 goals

The Chelsea legend has won the FA Cup four times during his career, in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012. He is the only midfielder to feature on this list, and has been able to provide 15 assists as well. 

2. Ian Rush – 40 goals 

Ian Rush is the only Liverpool player to feature in this list, winning the trophy three times in his career. The Welshman also featured for Newcastle United in the FA Cup, but was never able to win. 

1. Harry Cursham – 49 goals 

Harry Cursham remains the top goalscorer in the FA Cup despite setting the record in 1887. He scored 49 goals in 44 FA Cup games, a remarkable return for the versatile centre-forward.
