Lara Croft is back, and this time she will tackle the open environment with a new arsenal at her disposal.

A new game has been confirmed by Crystal Dynamics, the studio behind the popular Tomb Raider series, and it is rumored that it will be an open world adventure set in the stunning Indian landscape.

A Powerful Engine for a Powerful Adventure

In favor of an impressive Unreal Engine 5, the next Tomb Raider title will move away from a studio’s foundation engine. That powerful engine promises amazing images, immersive environments and a level of detail that is truly going to make Lara’s adventures come true.

In addition, Amazon Games took over the publishing of Lara Croft in a way that hinted at an expanded and interconnected universe which would cover not only video games but also movies and television series.

Whispers of an Open World and a Motorcycle

While Crystal Dynamics is tightlipped about details, the rumors that are circulating on the Internet, courtesy of a movie insider named V Scooper, who has a history of accurate movie scoops, paint a very exciting picture.

It has been reported that the next Tomb Raider will be a full open world experience, allowing players to explore vast regions in India on Lara’s trusty bike. Lara will also be able to use a parachute, allowing her more exploration possibilities in order to conquer the difficult terrains and discover hidden secrets.

A Race Against Time and Rivals

The rumors are deepening, suggesting the story of the game. It is said that the long lost ruins and artifacts of the ancient emperor Ashoka have been uncovered by a natural disaster in northern India. Lara, a brave adventurer, finds herself racing against time to secure these priceless artifacts.

But she isn’t the only one who cares about it. The hunt for these treasures is also being pursued by a mysterious group called the Society of Raiders, inspired by Lara’s exploits, but with potentially conflicting motives.

Strategic Alliances and Non-Lethal Combat

The rival faction is adding a new dimension to the game. V Scooper’s idea is to have Lara recruiting allies and forming teams so she can strategically exploit her skills for overcoming obstacles and defeating the Society of Warriors.

This focus on teamwork, with an emphasis on the use of non-lethal strikes in combination with conventional fighting options, hints at a possibly more complex approach to combat.

A Summer Unveiling and a Potential 2025 Release

While Crystal Dynamics has not confirmed a release date for the game, film industry insider Miller Ross believes that it is being developed longer than expected. With the Summer Game Fest rapidly approaching on June 7th, 2024, a lot of fans are wondering if there’s going to be a reveal.

Given the history of Summer Games Fest’s promotion of upcoming titles, a 2025 release date seems plausible.

The Future of Tomb Raider

The next Tomb Raider game has all the makings of a monumental adventure, with an open world setting, a powerful new engine, and exciting gameplay rumors.

It remains to be seen whether those rumors are true, and when we can expect an official tour of the ruins of India with Lara Croft. But there’s one thing for certain: in the months ahead, fans of Tomb Raider will have a lot to be excited about.
