The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have recently announced the appointment of former player and New Zealand fast-bowling legend Tim Southee as their bowling coach for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. This strategic move marks a significant revamp of the KKR coaching staff and aims to bolster their bowling unit with Southee’s vast experience and technical expertise.

Southee played for KKR during the IPL seasons of 2021, 2022, and 2023, where he had some of his most successful performances, including taking 14 wickets in the IPL 2022 at an economy rate of 7.85. Following his retirement from international cricket, Southee remained active in professional leagues like The Hundred in England, demonstrating his continued passion and skill in cricket. His coaching role at KKR will replace Bharat Arun, who recently moved to the Lucknow Super Giants coaching staff.

Tim Southee expressed enthusiasm about returning to KKR, stating, “KKR has always felt like home to me, and it’s an honour to return in this new role. The franchise has an incredible culture, passionate fans, and a great group of players. I look forward to working closely with the bowlers and helping the team achieve success in IPL 2026.”

KKR CEO Venky Mysore highlighted Southee’s qualities, saying, “We are delighted to welcome Tim Southee back to the KKR family, this time in a coaching capacity.
