The Dog Stars: A Post-Apocalyptic Gamble

Legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns with a story set after civilization has collapsed. Jacob Elordi plays Hig, a pilot who survives a devastating flu pandemic, holed up in an abandoned airport hangar with a hardened survivalist named Bangley. When a mysterious voice crackles through on the radio, Hig risks everything he has left, boarding his small plane and flying into uncertain, dangerous territory. With Scott’s track record of building immersive, high-stakes worlds, this one promises equal parts heartbreak and tension.

Tony: The Chaos Behind the Icon

Before he became a household name, Anthony Bourdain was just a 19-year-old trying to survive the brutal chaos of a Provincetown restaurant kitchen. That’s the story director Matt Johnson tells in Tony, a biographical comedy-drama led by Dominic Sessa, with Antonio Banderas rounding out a colorful supporting cast. It’s a coming-of-age story wrapped in the sweat, pressure, and dark humor of professional kitchens — long before Bourdain became the globally celebrated chef and storyteller the world would come to know.

Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown Ups: Yash’s Genre-Bending Thriller

This one’s a bit different — an action thriller from South Indian cinema getting an English release this week. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic centers on a bitter father-son rivalry and features a stacked cast including Yash, Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, and Rukmini Vasanth. With Ravi Basrur’s background score and Rajeev Ravi behind the camera, this film is being pitched as a dark, stylized fable rather than a conventional action drama — expect visuals and tone that lean more mythic than mainstream.

Which One Should You Watch?

If you love slow-burn survival dramas, The Dog Stars is your pick. If character-driven, kitchen-chaos storytelling appeals to you, Tony delivers that in spades. And if you’re after high-octane visuals with an emotional core, Toxic brings a fresh, cross-industry flavor to the week’s lineup.
