Pre-season football is heating up, and Germany’s own “Die Wölfe” (The Wolves) — VfL Wolfsburg — are set for a stern test against seven-time French champions Olympique Lyon. Here’s everything you need to know before kickoff.

Head coach Tobias Strobl’s men will wrap up their training camp in the Weimarer Land region with this high-profile friendly. The Wolves will take on Olympique Lyon on Friday, 24 July, at 2pm at Fuchs-Park-Stadion in Bamberg, with the match played across two 60-minute halves. vfl-wolfsburg

Match Preview

This friendly caps off Wolfsburg’s stay in Weimarer Land ahead of the new Bundesliga season, and it’s no soft send-off — Lyon bring serious pedigree as one of France’s most decorated clubs. Expect Strobl to rotate heavily and test his squad’s shape under real pressure, while Lyon will use the game to sharpen their own pre-season rhythm.

Prediction

With both sides mid-way through preparation, expect a competitive, cagey affair rather than a goal fest. A narrow scoreline or draw looks likely, with fringe players given a real chance to impress before the competitive season begins.
