The Witcher Season 5: Why Netflix Just Pushed the Finale to 2027

Fans hoping to see Geralt’s final battle before the year ends might want to sit down. The Witcher Season 5 — the show’s grand, sword-swinging finale — has quietly slipped from its expected 2026 release into 2027, despite filming having wrapped nearly a year ago.

What Happened?

Earlier this year, The Witcher‘s last season was front and center in Netflix’s “Next on Netflix” promos, fueling hopes for a 2026 send-off. But the season has since been noticeably removed from Netflix’s public media materials for the year. Filming actually wrapped back in September 2025 — about a month before Season 4 dropped last Halloween — so the delay isn’t about production, but likely the mountain of VFX and post-production work needed to bring the Continent’s monsters and magic to life properly.

The Witcher Season 5: Overview

Why the Wait Might Be Worth It

Season 5 wraps up the intertwined fates of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, with Liam Hemsworth returning for his second and final run as the monster hunter. Netflix has also been quietly stacking the cast list with new faces throughout the year, hinting at an epic, high-stakes send-off. Strategically, pushing the release into 2027 also gives Netflix a massive tentpole to anchor next year’s lineup, while 2026 already has heavy hitters like Black Doves and 3 Body Problem to lean on.

It stings for fans eager for closure, but with this much world-building and CGI riding on the final season, a little extra polish could mean the difference between a good ending and an unforgettable one.
