A month ago, few expected this. The Vvaan, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia, collected approximately Rs 5.50 crore nett on its fifth day of release. That’s a jump of around 15 per cent from Monday, helped by Tuesday ticket discounts. The five-day total now stands at about Rs 42.25 crore nett, and the first week is headed toward Rs 49 to 50 crore.

How the Days Looked The Vvaan?

The film opened with Rs 7.50 crore on Friday and rose to Rs 10.75 crore on Saturday. Sunday was the best day at Rs 13.75 crore. It dipped to Rs 4.75 crore on Monday, then bounced back with Tuesday’s Rs 5.50 crore. This is a healthy pattern for a film that relies on word of mouth: strong weekend growth, a sensible weekday drop and a rebound on discount day.

A Comeback Story

Pinkvilla’s trade analysis calls the trend so far that of a hit film. It goes further, noting that a month ago the film looked like it might be dead on arrival, but perceptions improved and it has emerged as a success. It has done far better than expectations, which makes the run more impressive. Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia will be pleased to see the film hold up so well.

The Drishyam 3 Challenge

There’s one big caveat. Drishyam 3 arrives in the second week with heavy advance sales, and it’s expected to take a large share of screens and audiences. The trade view is that if The Vvaan can withstand that competition, it will certainly emerge as a hit. The analysis also suggests the film could have picked a better date, and that a release one week earlier would have been far better.
