The Netflix Move

Reports confirm the film arrives on Netflix in the United States on 30 November, right after its first Peacock run ends. It will then move back to Peacock later. That’s the same pattern the first film followed. Plans for other territories aren’t yet clear. So if you’re outside the US, check your local Netflix before planning a movie night.

Why It’s a Big Deal?

The film became the first billion-dollar movie of 2026 and the highest-grossing film of the year. That’s a huge result for a sequel arriving just three years after the original. Talks of a third film and a Donkey Kong spin-off are also in the air, per Entertainment Now. collider

What to Expect On Screen?

The story takes Mario into space. New faces include Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. Donald Glover voices Yoshi, and Glen Powell voices Fox McCloud in a Star Fox crossover. Reviews were mixed. Variety called it a frenetic sequel built on video-game Easter eggs, so lower your expectations for story and raise them for fun. Variety

An Awards Nod Too

The film is also among the animated nominees at the 17th Hollywood Music in Media Awards, per Cartoon Contender. Winners will be announced on 18 November 2026. The source I found doesn’t give the exact category, so check the official nominee list for details. cartooncontender
