Christopher Nolan just hit a milestone few directors ever touch in India — but the fight isn’t over yet. “The Odyssey” has crossed the Rs. 150 crore mark and is now staring down a fresh rival: “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”
In its second week alone, the film added roughly Rs. 54 crore, pushing its 14-day total to Rs. 158.10 crore net in India. Thursday, however, saw a sharp 45% dip — a direct hit from the web-slinger’s massive opening.
Starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, and Zendaya, “The Odyssey” isn’t operating in a genre that traditionally rules Indian screens — mythological epics have rarely been blockbusters here, save for the occasional exception. Yet Nolan’s brand has become its own box office guarantee, built on a decade of goodwill from hits and the recent re-release of “Interstellar.”

The Odyssey vs Spider-Man: Day-Wise Collection Snapshot (India)
| Day | Gross |
|---|---|
| Week 1 (Fri–Thu) | Rs. 104.75 cr. |
| 2nd Friday | Rs. 8.25 cr. |
| 2nd Saturday | Rs. 13.50 cr. |
| 2nd Sunday | Rs. 14.00 cr. |
| 2nd Monday | Rs. 4.75 cr. |
| 2nd Tuesday | Rs. 5.75 cr. |
| 2nd Wednesday | Rs. 4.90 cr. (est.) |
| 2nd Thursday | Rs. 2.70 cr. (est.) |
| Total (14 days) | Rs. 158.10 cr. |
If the film holds steady through week three despite Spider-Man’s competition, trade watchers expect it to cross Rs. 200 crore gross — a career-best for Nolan in India.
The story itself draws from Homer’s ancient Greek poem, the Odyssey, which has inspired countless adaptations across film and literature for centuries — giving Nolan’s version a mythic weight that’s rare for a modern blockbuster.
