Christopher Nolan doesn’t do quiet openings, and The Odyssey is proving it all over again. The epic drama registered a massive 30% jump on Saturday, pushing its two-day India total to Rs 45 crore gross (Rs 37 crore nett) — a number most films can’t touch even by the end of a full week.
Starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Zendaya, the film is now eyeing a first-weekend finish between Rs 70–75 crore gross, which would be over 20% higher than Oppenheimer’s opening weekend. For a non-franchise Hollywood release, that’s a rare feat in Indian theatres.
The Odyssey: Day-Wise Collection Snapshot
| Day | Gross Box Office (India) |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Rs 19.50 crore |
| Day 2 | Rs 25.50 crore |
| Total | Rs 45 crore (Rs 37 crore nett) |
Why This Matters
Nolan’s last outing, Oppenheimer, closed its Indian run at Rs 159 crore on strong word-of-mouth legs. The Odyssey is tracking to not just match but potentially cross that, with trade estimates pointing toward Rs 200 crore (~USD 21 million) by the end of its theatrical run. The film draws inspiration from Homer’s classic epic, The Odyssey, one of the oldest surviving works of Western literature.

Globally, the film is riding an equally strong wave — North American weekend estimates have jumped from USD 100 million to a projected USD 125 million+, putting it firmly on course for a USD 1 billion worldwide haul.
The film has a clear runway too, with no major competition until Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in theatres.
