The National Basketball Association (NBA) is considering a rule change that might end up affecting player’s performances who generally win fouls by leaning back in a certain back or sideway as an attempt to initiate contacts such as Luka Doncic, James Harden and Trae Young.

NBA hasn’t yet decided but is considering the option of conducting a vote for the implementation of the improved foul rules prior to the Summer League to held this August in Las Vegas, Nevada.

According to the proposed improvised foul rules, the players will be restricted from executing any unnatural motion during shooting jump shots.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski stated, “The NBA and the competition committee – comprising a select group of owners, general managers, coaches, players and referees – largely believe there’s a framework of rules that allows offensive players too much free time to initiate contact in what are deemed unnatural and awkward ways.”

Sources: NBA’s Competition Committee met Monday to further explore rules changes to restrict unnatural motions on jump shots players use to draw fouls. NBA wants to limit players – including stars like Trae Young, James Harden – from leaning backwards and sideways to draw fouls.

The plan's to bring recommendations to the Board of Governors for a vote this summer and implement rule changes for 2021-2022, per sources. Next step will be to talk with league’s GM’s about the specific unnatural motions that’ll be formally recommended to owners for elimination. https://t.co/wDbZ75PUJe

NBA are looking to restrict the initiation of contact in the above-mentioned manner for the upcoming 2021/22 season to reduce the number of fouls in matches.

Further on, the Coach’s challenge will be staying this season in the NBA, approved by the Board of directors.

NBA president of league operations Byron Spruell stated “Our coaches were receptive to the pilot version of the coach’s challenge, increasing usage and becoming more comfortable with the concept and strategic aspects as the season progressed.”

Also, the roster size is being increased from 13 players to 15 players so, in the case of a positive COVID case, the team shall not have a shortage of players.
