The Last of Us Part 1 gets PC Hotfix 1.0.1.6 to fix performance issues

A hotfix for The Last of Us Part 1’s PC version has been released to fix memory and performance problems. The Last of Us Part 1 has now benefited from two patches in just as many days as Naughty Dog has been working diligently on repairing the terrible state that it launched in earlier this week. After The Last of Us Part 1’s three-week delay for quality reasons, there was optimism that it would turn out to be yet another successful Sony port.

The Last of Us Part 1 reviews on Steam, which average out to a Mostly Negative rating with only 38% of them positive, suggest that those three weeks should have been three months. Even positive reviews criticize the poor port, warning players to wait until the shaders have built before even considering starting the game to avoid the client crashing frequently.

The new hotfix aims to boost memory and performance as well as the tools available to developers for tracking and identifying problems. Additionally, Naughty Dog has established a Known Issues page on its website, which will be updated as The Last of Us Part 1 is fixed.

The game won’t start even though it meets the minimum requirements, and there may be a memory leak. Shader loading times are also currently being looked into. Given how serious these reported problems are, it is not surprising that Naughty Dog has been making intense efforts to fix them.

The Last of Us Part 1 PC v1.0.1.6 Patch Notes: —

  • Decreased PSO cache size to reduce memory requirements and minimize Out of Memory crashes
  • Added additional diagnostics for developer tracking purposes
  • Increased animation streaming memory to improve performance during gameplay and cinematics
  • Fix for crash on boot relating to game save files

Despite this, many people refuse to give Naughty Dog any credit because they think the game shouldn’t have ever been released. When it was revealed that Iron Galaxy was involved in The Last of Us Part 1 PC development earlier this month, fans were concerned about the game’s quality. A disastrous port of Batman: Arkham Knight, which was derided by the gaming community for its subpar performance and 30 frames-per-second locks, unfortunately, tarnished the reputation of Iron Galaxy.

The Last of Us Part 1 is available now on PS5 and PC.
