The Last of Us Part 1, Naughty Dog’s recent recreation of the critically acclaimed title, will be released on PC in March 2023. Many consider the first TLoU to be one of the best post-apocalyptic games of its generation, with its heartbreaking story of survival in a world gone wrong, complete with stellar acting and engrossing action, followed by a sequel in 2020 that was equally appreciated, but contentious among others.
The Last of Us Remake was published in September for the PlayStation 5. While the original was a PlayStation exclusive, there were hopes that the remake would be released on PC, and those aspirations are about to be realized. However, despite being a rebuild of the 2013 edition of TLoU, with updated aesthetics, enhanced character models, and gameplay adjustments, some may have been wary of the studio rebuilding a game that was less than 10 years old, especially given that a remastered version was already available.
Nonetheless, the remake was released and earned positive reviews from critics, and now The Last of Us Part 1 is set to release on PC on March 3, 2023.
This was announced at The Game Awards on December 8th, along with a very dramatic trailer for the Naughty Dog remake. It’s worth noting, however, that the footage in the teaser was recorded from the PS5 version of the game, so it’s unclear how the PC port will appear. Having said that, many will undoubtedly be delighted that this new incarnation of TLoU will be released on a platform other than PlayStation.
In addition, there will be an HBO adaptation of The Last of Us, which will premiere on January 15. It will join a long list of TV and film adaptations of popular video games, such as Resident Evil, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Uncharted. The TLoU program will not be a retelling of the game but will incorporate elements from it. At this point, it is unknown whether it will be as popular as the game.
Naughty Dog’s horror-action series has certainly struck a chord with gamers and journalists alike, offering something a little new to the zombie genre cliché. According to the developer, a third installment is likely to be in the works at some point, which is great news for anyone who hasn’t had their fill of all things The Last of Us.
The Last of Us Part 1 is out now on PlayStation 5, with a PC version coming on March 3, 2023.
