‘The Immortal Man’ doesn’t require you to have watched a single episode of Peaky Blinders to enjoy it fully. The new film stands completely on its own, with its own narrative arc, fresh characters, and a self-contained story that works for newcomers and franchise veterans alike. Here’s what you actually need to know before hitting play.

‘The Immortal Man’ Works Standalone

The film operates as a completely independent experience. Director Steven Knight crafted ‘The Immortal Man’ with fresh viewers in mind—zero backstory homework required. The plot, characters, and emotional payoff all exist within the film’s own universe.

You won’t feel lost or confused watching it cold. The screenplay does the heavy lifting for you. That’s intentional. Knight wanted to expand his storytelling beyond the series’ existing fanbase, and the film proves he succeeded.

What Makes This Different From the Series

‘The Immortal Man’ takes a completely different tone than Peaky Blinders. While the TV show focused on Birmingham’s crime underworld across six seasons, this film explores immortality and philosophical questions that the series never touched.

The setting shifts. The thematic weight changes. Even if you’ve binged every Peaky episode, you’re essentially entering new territory. Longtime fans will catch subtle nods and Easter eggs woven throughout—but missing them won’t diminish your experience one bit. The film rewards both audiences equally.

Should You Watch Peaky Blinders First?

Honestly? No. Skip the six-season commitment if you’re purely interested in ‘The Immortal Man’. The film stands as a gateway into Knight’s creative universe rather than a mandatory epilogue.

However, if you love character-driven dramas and complex narratives worth exploring alone, the original series remains exceptional television. Watch it separately, on its own merits. Don’t force yourself through it just to understand the movie.

‘The Immortal Man’ demands nothing from your past viewing history. It only asks for your attention in the present moment.
