England’s electrifying 100-ball tournament is gearing up for a game-changing 2026 season. With The Hundred’s first-ever auction scheduled for March and the pre-auction signing window closing at the end of January, teams are making strategic moves to build championship-winning squads. The tournament runs from July 21 to August 16, 2026.

What’s New in The Hundred 2026?

This year brings revolutionary changes. Each team can make up to four pre-auction moves: at least one retention from their 2025 squad and three direct signings combining overseas stars and centrally contracted England players. The introduction of an auction system mirrors successful T20 leagues worldwide, adding excitement for fans and opportunities for players.

Standout Signings That Could Change the Game

Manchester Super Giants have assembled a women’s dream team with Sophie Ecclestone, Meg Lanning, and Smriti Mandhana. MI London’s retention of Rashid Khan alongside new additions Nicholas Pooran and Hayley Matthews signals their championship ambitions. Meanwhile, London Spirit’s Adam Zampa and Dewald Brevis combo could provide crucial spin and explosive batting.

Why This Matters

The pre-auction signings set the foundation for team strategies. Retentions ensure continuity and team chemistry, while direct signings allow franchises to secure key players before the auction frenzy. This hybrid approach balances loyalty with strategic squad building, creating competitive balance across all eight teams.

With stars like Jos Buttler, Harry Brook, and Ellyse Perry committed, The Hundred 2026 promises thrilling cricket. The March auction will fill remaining squad spots, but these early moves have already shaped championship contenders.
