What’s the Story?

Set in the Lands Between, the powerful Elden Ring has been shattered, with its shards divided amongst corrupted demigods. An exile from the Lands Between is tasked with traversing the realm to repair the Elden Ring and become the Elden Lord. Wikipedia

The game’s world was built in collaboration with Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin — and that mythology is the foundation this film is being built on. Read more about the source material on the Elden Ring Wikipedia page.

Why This Is Such a Big Deal

Elden Ring is one of the most critically acclaimed video games ever made — a dark fantasy-action RPG that has sold over 30 million copies worldwide and received more than 400 Game of the Year awards since its 2022 debut. Variety

This is A24’s most expensive and ambitious feature project to date The Hollywood Reporter, and having Alex Garland — whose recent war film Civil War held the title as A24’s priciest production until now — at the helm signals the studio is betting big on this one.

Garland is understood to have been a longtime fan of the game, and made a personal pitch to publishers Bandai Namco and FromSoftware to bring it to screen. Variety
