The East Palace Teaser: Nam Joo Hyuk Gets A Deadline — Catch The Spirit Or Lose His Head

Some job offers come with signing bonuses. This one comes with a sword at your throat. Netflix’s The East Palace just dropped a teaser that makes its stakes brutally clear.

What’s The East Palace About?

Set to premiere on Netflix on July 17, The East Palace follows Gu Cheon (Nam Joo Hyuk), a man able to move between the world of the living and the dead, and Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo), a court lady who can hear spirits. The King (Cho Seung Woo) summons the pair to uncover the dark secret haunting his cursed palace.

Inside The Teaser

The clip opens with Gu Cheon blindfolded and bound, forced to kneel before a pond inside the palace. Once the blindfold comes off, the King approaches and explains that the Crown Prince died there after being cursed by a vengeful spirit, one that has now threatened to wipe out his entire bloodline, leaving his last remaining son near death. He orders Gu Cheon to drive the spirit out.

Gu Cheon points out that the spirit has already moved on from the pond, requiring a full search of the palace. He then attempts a quick escape, only to be caught almost instantly and hauled back before the King, who draws his sword and lays out a gruesome set of consequences for failure or betrayal. Left with no way to refuse, Gu Cheon is given an ultimatum: capture and eliminate the spirit, or face severe punishment — succeed, though, and he’ll be granted anything he asks for. The King then names him the palace’s official feng shui master, complete with an assigned assistant.

With a life-or-death ultimatum and a vengeful spirit on the loose, The East Palace is shaping up to be a tense supernatural thriller. It premieres on Netflix July 17.
