As soon as COVID-19 hit the globe in 2022, we saw a boom in the need for PCs and laptops by the consumer as rapidly everyone transitioned to a digital lifestyle. However, the massive increase in shipments back in 2020-21, has now seen a major decline in 2022 and for OEMs, it’s obviously a nightmare.

The latest data from Counterpoint does show that the Global PC shipments fell 11.1% YoY in Q2 2022 to reach 71.2 million units, which by far is the largest YoY decline since 2013. Though this is also an impact of China’s lockdown, however, it is evident that the demand also declined considerably.

Not only that, the increasing war between nations along with its effects for inflation has also been a factor for lowering demands. When compared to pre-COVID level, the sales are still good but not as high as it was in 2021 or 2020 and this could be the new norm as a lot of people have bought during the COVID times.

HP has seen major deline in shipments with as high as 27% YoY decline in shipments, Acer with 14.8% YoY decline and Apple saw a major 20% in its Q2 shipments largely due to supply chain disruption as Counterpoint states. Lenovo still maintain its pole position to be the market leader but it also saw a 12.7% decline YoY to 17.4 million units, thanks to low consumer demands.
