What’s the Story?

Set in 1930s Chicago, a groundbreaking scientist is asked by Frankenstein’s monster to create a companion for him. When a murdered woman is brought back to life as The Bride, her resurrection sparks an outlaw romance, police scrutiny, and a wild radical social movement — a journey critics have compared to a “punk-rock” Bonnie and Clyde.

The film draws inspiration from the iconic 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein, which itself was based on Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein. Wikipedia But Gyllenhaal’s version is no dusty remake — it’s a fierce, feminist reinvention.

Why the Hype Is Real

After wowing critics and the Academy with her 2021 directorial debut The Lost Daughter, Maggie Gyllenhaal returns behind the camera with an A-list ensemble and a story bold enough to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein — which debuted on Netflix just months earlier in November 2025.

Warner Bros. strategically delayed the film’s original Fall 2025 release to March 2026, avoiding a direct box-office clash with del Toro’s version. PR Newswire Smart move — because now The Bride! gets a moment all its own.
