The Body Catholic School Girls, Prophetic Visions, and Chaos — Netflix’s Next Obsession

Think Carrie meets Mean Girls with a dash of Salem-era paranoia. That’s the pitch behind The Body, Netflix’s new coming-of-age horror series from Under the Bridge creator Quinn Shephard — and it’s landing on the streamer this November.

The Body — Quick Facts

What’s the Story?

The show follows three badly-behaved Catholic school girls — Anya, Elise, and Lisbeth — who start having prophetic visions after a dance-team initiation spirals out of control, triggering mass hysteria across their town. Shephard describes the tone as “gritty camp,” blending raunchy teen drama with genuine Catholic horror.

Why It’s Generating Buzz

Shephard has cited Carrie, Jennifer’s Body, Heavenly Creatures, and even the Salem witch trials as touchstones — grounding a supernatural premise in something that feels uncomfortably real. She calls it “a love letter to ’90s and Y2K teen movies and erotic thrillers,” a tone that’s rare on Netflix’s current slate.

The cast is stacked too, with Sofia Wylie, Nnamdi Asomugha, and Louisa Krause rounding out a large ensemble alongside the three leads. With Riley Keough’s Felix Culpa banner also producing, expect the same unsettling, atmosphere-driven storytelling that made Under the Bridge a critical hit.
