The Affair Was Just the Beginning: The Perfect Influencer Couple Is Hiding Something Bigger Than An Affair

Some dramas open with a scandal. The Affair Was Just the Beginning opens with a warning in the title itself — whatever infidelity you’re expecting, it’s not even close to the real story. New stills starring Kim Hye Soo and Kim Ji Hun have just dropped, and they’re already teasing a much darker secret underneath the picture-perfect image.

What’s The Drama About?

Billed as a black comedy, the story follows Kyung Hee (Kim Hye Soo) and Jae Hong (Kim Ji Hun) — an influencer couple who’ve built their entire brand around a seemingly flawless family life. Living next door is a doctor couple mid-divorce, and when the two households collide, they get pulled into a secret so overwhelming it makes an affair look trivial by comparison. It’s a premise that leans into the same social-media-mask themes explored across modern black comedy storytelling, where curated online personas crack under real-life pressure.

What The New Stills Show

Kyung Hee is introduced as a successful interior design CEO with a polished, confident public image — until another still catches her lost in thought, hinting at a private crisis brewing beneath the surface. Jae Hong, her younger husband, appears relaxed in their luxury neighborhood in one shot, then frozen with shock in another, as though he’s just witnessed something he can’t unsee.

The Chemistry Fans Are Talking About

Kim Hye Soo shared that watching playback footage, she’d sometimes forget she was watching her co-star and see only the character — a rare compliment from an actress of her caliber. Kim Ji Hun echoed the sentiment, crediting her preparation for pushing their scenes beyond what was written.

While counting down to the July 31 premiere, fans can catch Kim Hye Soo in Default and Kim Ji Hun in Flower of Evil, both streaming on Viki.
