Radhikaa Sarathkumar’s Thaai Kizhavi is quietly doing something extraordinary. Thaai Kizhavi Box Office Report Card — Week by Week

The Film Behind the Numbers

Thaai Kizhavi — meaning Old Woman in Tamil — centres on Pavunuthaayi, a sharp-tongued, feared moneylender who runs her Madurai village with an iron fist. When she falls critically ill, her three estranged sons return home — and the film mines that reunion for both biting comedy and genuine emotional depth.

Radhikaa Sarathkumar delivers a career-best performance, earning a BookMyShow rating of 9.3/10 from over 7,300 votes. The film opened to overwhelmingly positive word-of-mouth, with Day 2 occupancy jumping to 46% — a staggering leap for a non-star-driven release.

What makes this story special isn’t just the numbers — it’s what they represent. Made on a shoestring budget with no A-list hero and a first-time director, Thaai Kizhavi has provided Kollywood’s struggling mid-budget segment with a genuine blueprint. It joins Sirai, TTT, and With Love as part of Tamil cinema’s small-budget revolution of 2026.

By the end of its run, the film is on track to cross ₹60 crore net in India — making it the first Tamil film of 2026 to cross the ₹50 crore ROI milestone, with returns already touching 540%.
