If you’ve been refreshing Netflix hoping to see the El Paso crew back in action, we hate to be the bearers of bad news. All signs in mid-2026 are pointing in one very difficult direction — Tex Mex Motors Season 3 may never happen.

Here’s everything we know, and why the story behind it is just as emotional as the show itself.

What Is Tex Mex Motors?

For the uninitiated, Tex Mex Motors follows a ragtag team of automotive specialists who hunt down dilapidated classic cars across the border in Mexico, haul them to their shop in El Paso, Texas, and restore them into high-dollar masterpieces. Think car restoration reality TV with a uniquely Borderland soul. The show built a passionate fanbase drawn to its authenticity, cultural pride, and genuinely thrilling automotive restoration craft. whats-on-netflix

Sadly, the six-episode second season in late 2024 was heavily overshadowed by the tragic and sudden passing of co-creator and beloved star Rob “Rabbit” Pitts, who lost a battle with stomach cancer in August of that year. Rabbit was the beating heart of the entire show.

What the Cast Is Saying

Netflix rarely officially cancels its reality shows — they just go quiet. So fans have turned to the cast for answers, and the updates haven’t been encouraging.

In January 2026, cast member Jaime Hjelm gave a blunt update when asked about new episodes: “they have not renewed us yet.” Even more telling, in March 2026, cast member Robert Pettit replied to a fan asking about Season 3 with “not that we’ve heard…. Fingers crossed!”

The cast is clearly waiting just as anxiously as the fans.

Production Has Gone Completely Dark

Beyond the cast’s comments, the behind-the-scenes picture is equally grim. After trawling through crew resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and online portfolios, there is absolutely zero evidence that Tex Mex Motors is in pre-production, currently filming, or scheduling a shoot.

Making matters worse, Netflix recently canceled Car Masters: Rust to Riches after six seasons — its longest-running car restoration series — suggesting the streamer may be re-evaluating the genre’s return on investment or pivoting away from this style of unscripted programming altogether. whats-on-netflix

And then there’s the unavoidable question: how do you continue Tex Mex Motors without Rob “Rabbit” Pitts? His dynamic with Scooter drove the narrative just as much as the engine rebuilds did, and many fans have expressed that bringing in new blood might feel hollow.

The honest assessment: while Netflix hasn’t stamped Tex Mex Motors with an official “Canceled” label, all signs point to the show being quietly shelved — and fans should probably consider Season 2 the final lap for the El Paso crew. whats-on-netflix
